Hello Ladies,
The Holiday Season is quickly approaching which
means Festival of Trees will be here before we know it! We need help
decorating MSA's "Gift of Love" to Primary Children's (AKA our TREE)!
Please help us NEXT Thursday, 11/15, 4pm-6pm, Emily Dowdle's church ~ 2125 E Evergreen Ave (3400 s).
We are hoping to have the tree finished by 6pm so we need everyone's
help! Kids are welcome and we will have drinks and snacks to share. If
you have Halloween candy leftover a treat to share - please bring it!
We will deliver the tree and finish set up at the ST Expo center on
11/26. If you are interested in helping with the final set up on 11/26
or have questions about decorating next Thursday (11/15) please contact
me directly - kati.irwinwagner@yahoo.com.
Our 2012 tree has a Disney theme ~ please help us put it together next Thursday!!!!!!
If you are not familiar with Festival of Trees here is a bit of history...
For 42 years, the Festival of Trees has been a “Gift of Love” to children at Primary Children's Medical Center.
The Festival is organized by a volunteer board of 85 women who enlist
time and talents from thousands of individuals, organizations (LIKE MSA!),
businesses, and families throughout Utah. Over $30.8 million has been
raised for children at Primary Children’s Medical Center through the
Festival since 1971, with $1,655,931.40 raised in 2011.
or check out their site for details on this year's festival http://www.festivaloftreesutah.org/
We hope see everyone next week!
Thanks~

Witches Night Out
Hey
ladies!! It is getting close to that time of year....Witches Night
Out!!!! For those of you that have not gone to this before, you are in
for a real treat!! It is sooooo much fun, more fun than I can describe
in this email ;) I am trying to get a head count. We will be going on
October 27th @ 7:00pm and will go til around 10:30 but you are more than
welcome to leave as early as you need. It is $5 per car (free to get in
though) so it might be nice to carpool as much as we can, it will be
more fun that way anyways :) So if you ladies can email me back if you
can make it that would fantastic and also let me know if you are willing
to drive. I REALLY hope all of you girls can make it, it will be such a
fun getaway from those adorable kids of ours, work and school!!! We

October Service Project
We just wanted to let you know that our
October service project is coming up. We are going to be working with
the Soles4Souls Foundation. For those of you that have not heard of
this... it is such a wonderful cause and we are so grateful to be a part
of it. We really want to encourage you to bring your families, we are
having the children make cards for our soldiers over in Afghanistan and
there will also be lots of yummy treats to enjoy!! Everything you need
to know about this night is listed below. Hailey and Nicole have done
such an amazing job with setting all of this up for all of us to enjoy,
we hope you are all able to come out and show your support. We would
like to ask each of you to tell as many people as you can. You can
simply call and/or email out to family and friends and hopefully we can
get as many people to contribute as possible! We rock ladies, let's see
how many shoes we can collect and how many smiles we can bring to our
soldiers faces :) We love you girls and hope to see you all very soon!!
Love, Liz & Liz

"Soles4Souls is
a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of
footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity
distributes these shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion,
class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has
delivered over 19 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. The shoes
have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya,
Thailand, Nepal and the United States."
Any kind of shoe can be donated, even mismatched pairs. " When
we receive the shoes you collect, we will grade them according to the
condition. "A" grade shoes are "like new" or "gently worn" and will be
delivered to victimes of natural disasters or abject poverty. "B" and
"C" grade shoes require clean up or repair and will be sent to
developing nations to support people escaping poverty through their own
micro-enterprise business."

About the MSA
The MSA is part of the national service organization called the American Medical Association (AMA) Alliance. This alliance, a sister organization to the AMA, is broken down into state and county alliances. In Utah, we also have a Resident branch and a Medical Student branch (that's us). We work with the state and national organizations to promote good legislation for physicians and patients, to encourage and present community health programs and service, and so forth. As spouses/significant others of medical students, we also take this time to lift up, serve, and support each other and our medical students through this challenging time. We hold enlightening and helpful lectures/panel discussions, worthwhile service projects, fun interest groups, and even a free date night here and there. The MSA gives members a small introduction to an organization that is available to be part of the rest of your life. Through all of these things, we hope to promote healthy and happy medical families now and for the future.
Get ready to have a great year with MSA...helping your life and others!

UMAA Conference
The day after the MSA Opening Social, there is the Utah Medical
Association Alliance (UMAA) Conference. The UMAA is a group of
physician's spouses dedicated to the healthcare and families in Utah.
It is a chapter of the American Medical Association Alliance (AMAA).
Some of your husbands may be part of AMA.
The conference takes place on Friday September 14th at the Salt Lake Hilton Hotel. Basically there will be lots of physician's spouses there celebrating the past 80 years of the UMAA and talking about our future. There are some recently proposed changes meant to simplify the state organization in order to better serve and support medical families. That is us, we are the upcoming medical families! Sariah Hillam is the incoming UMAA president. A few of us have met her. She is awesome, young, has four young children, and is very much connected with our age group. Sariah is a great mentor and friend. It is awesome to know someone who has been through the journey alongside her husband of med school, residency, and now practicing medicine.
The UMAA has graciously offered to pay for each medical student spouse that is interested in going. The lunch will be salad, oregano chicken, summer berry sabayon.
Please RSVP by Monday September 10th if you would like to attend. There are some ladies that cannot attend, but have offered to watch other people's kids. If that applies to you, please let us know. Have a great day!

Cooking Club TONIGHT (Jan19th)
Hi Everyone again!
Just reminding you that Cooking Club is this coming Thursday at 7:30pm. The theme is soups, salads, and breads. It is at my house (Michelle Schmidt). I will plan on making a soup. You don't have to feel like you need to bring a whole pot of soup or a whole batch of rolls or breadsticks etc., just bring some left after you feed your family dinner. If you don't want or have time to make stuff come anyway to just get out and chat. Don't feel like you have to bring something. We would love if you all brought (or preferably e-mailed Lynnae Hymas to put in the cookbook-lynnae.hymas@gmail.com) the recipe you make or your favorite soup and bread recipes. You can include as many as you would like. Hope to see lots of you!
My address:
2965 S. (3200 E.) Gloria St Salt Lake City, UT 84109. Coming from foothill take the 3300 S. exit off of I-215 and head westbound. Turn right (North) at Valley Street or 3300 E. This is the street that runs between Smith's Marketplace, McDonald's and REI. Head north on that street until Joyce Drive and turn left, then right on to Gloria St. It is the third house on the right. It is gray with a big window in front. Michelle's cell is 801-674-6554 if you have any questions.
Michelle
***Also, let me know if any of you are planning on bringing your kids. You are absolutely more than welcome to but I just wanted to know so I would know if I should keep my kids up to play with them or not.
